Twenty-eight years ago, my first son was born.

At the time, I was working as an assistant manager at Discount Tire. I worked hard, stayed busy running the shop, and did what I thought I was supposed to do to provide for my family.

But there was one problem.

I was barely getting to see my son.

Some nights, I would get home so late that I would actually wake him up just so I could spend a little time with him. And eventually, that started weighing on me.

I realized that if I kept going down the same path, I would never be the kind of father I wanted to be.

That scared me because I knew what it felt like to grow up without my own father there. The last thing I wanted was for my son to experience that same kind of absence because I was always working.

Something had to change.

I started looking for an opportunity that would give me more control over my time. I didn’t want my relationship with my children to be limited to one Saturday a week. I wanted the freedom to be present, provide for my family, and build a future on my own terms.

Then one night, I came across an infomercial for Carlton Sheets’ no-money-down real estate program.

It caught my attention, so I started researching real estate and learning how investing worked. The more I learned, the more I realized this could be more than just another way to make money.

It could be a way to create the life I wanted for myself and my children.

So I made the decision to invest in real estate and eventually purchased my first investment property.

That decision changed the direction of my life.
